October 2010

Hello Friends!  Hope you had a great weekend.  I promise more posts this week..last week was very full.  Take care.

This picture was taken in the Spring 2007.

Sweet, sweet Bess.

Let me be honest with you…these memory posts pictures are so, oh so hard to see.  I pretty much cry every time.  Although we are doing well, seeing these makes my heart ache.  Sometimes it is such an intense ache that I almost can’t breathe.

I am so very thankful to have these for the children…Talking about their dad is pretty much a daily occurrence around here.  I want them to remember him even if it’s mostly my memories.

Wishing you a lovely weekend~

The other day we went to the farmer’s market.  My special friend was there that sells the most wonderful and fresh vegetables.  I usually buy from her every week, sometimes twice a week.  She grows her vegetables without the use of harmful pesticides, and I can tell she puts so much effort into her farm.

Anyway, on this particular Wednesday she had something I had never seen.  October beans…really beautiful pink speckled beans.  I was immediately drawn to them.  She, of course, gave me information on them and how to cook them.  I grab a pound or so along with a few other things and off I went.

I think we had them the following Sunday.  As I was cooking them they turned a solid purplish color.  Not nearly as pretty as they were before, but definitely yummy!  I have a new bean to add to my list.  What could be more fitting October beans in October~!

So, I do not know if you noticed, but I  just celebrated my one year anniversary on this blog.  I really have enjoyed writing these posts and savoring the little moments in my life that bring or have brought me so much joy.  I treasure these memories, as I have found out that memories are sometimes all we have in the end.  I hope that I have brought you all some joy and happiness in your life.  I also hope you will stop and savor not only the special days in life, but the ordinary days as well.

This picture was taken the summer of 2008.  It was our last family beach trip together.

Have a delightful weekend, friends~

Well, we ventured to the mountains of North Carolina to go apple picking. Of course, we invited a few friends along…definitely would not be an adventure without them.  This year we tried a different orchard, one that was a little closer to downtown.  We started the day off by having a very yummy lunch at a local restaurant…red pepper hummus~oh my!  After lunch we walked to a local curb market where we found some “bittersweet.”   Bittersweet is a vine with beautifully colored orange, yellow fruit that opens at maturity to expose really delightful red seeds.  It’s pretty expensive and usually sold in bunches or wreaths.  I love, love bittersweet!  I really couldn’t imagine fall without it.  Finally, we headed to the orchard to pick apples.  There were only two kinds available  for picking, Jonagolds and Golden Delicious.  The boys really enjoyed climbing to the top of the apple trees to get the sweetest apples.  All and all it was a fabulous day.  We came home with a peck and a half of apples and many great memories.

I hope everyone had a wonderful week. I do believe this picture was taken at Charlie’s sixth birthday party.  I believe it was a building party…so much fun.  In this picture Caleb is helping Sam with one of the games.  Caleb always played such a big role in the children’s birthday parties.  I would plan them, and he would always help with the children to make them so special.  This year we will reluctantly celebrate another party without him.  I will always  plan special parties for the children, as I believe birthdays are one of the best things in life.

Happy October 1st my friends!

Enjoy your weekend~
